The INCT SiMAI is an interdisciplinary center focused on the development of scientific foundations, computational methods, and technologies based on Artificial Intelligence for monitoring, simulation, and individual assistance in the context of extreme climate events. The institute integrates environmental, urban, behavioral data and real-time images to model risks, anticipate critical scenarios, and offer personalized support to affected individuals and populations.
The INCT's proposal is based on the integration of three complementary dimensions: simulation of urban mobility and its impacts, real-time monitoring of individuals and urban infrastructures, and development of digital humanitarian assistance systems based on intelligent agents and conversational interfaces. This approach allows us to understand and intervene in risk processes at different scales, from indoor environments and buildings to urban blocks and metropolitan regions.
The institute adopts a person-centered perspective, recognizing that the effectiveness of disaster responses depends on the ability to communicate risks, guide decisions, and support timely action. In this sense, it seeks to develop solutions that expand citizens' informational autonomy, strengthen coordination with civil defense agencies, and contribute to reducing human, social, and economic impacts associated with climate change.
Our goal is to generate knowledge to transform disaster response, promote resilience, reduce impacts, and strengthen adaptive capacity in the face of climate change through accessible, interdisciplinary, and human-centered solutions. Through pilot studies conducted throughout Brazil and abroad, we will test and validate technologies in real-world scenarios, ensuring their effectiveness and applicability. These efforts aim not only to improve responses to climate disasters, but also to create a solid scientific basis to guide public policies, government strategies, and actions of international organizations.
Welcome to INCT SiMAI!
Discover the three pillars of INCT SiMAI!
Risk Simulation: Predicting and analyzing population movements during severe weather events, enabling coordinated and informed responses. Furthermore, generating simulated scenarios and prospective data that allow the population to better understand the risks associated with the places where they live, study, and work, strengthening individual and collective preparedness.
Real-time monitoring: Using data from mobile devices to create fast and personalized alert systems.
Humanitarian Assistance: To provide essential guidance, support, and information before, during, and after risky situations, ensuring the physical and psychological recovery of individuals.
Meet the INCT SiMAI team, the people who make science happen!
